Sterling K. Brown takes his talents to Studio 8H.
If you’re Sterling K. Brown, its’s certainly good to be alive. The months encompassing the second half of last year and what we’ve experienced so far in 2018 have been a non-stop ride of accomplishments for the actor, best known for his award-winning role as Randall Pearson on NBC’s This Is Us drama.
After making history throughout the awards season—becoming the first black actor to win a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Drama as well as the first black actor to win a SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor—he also made an appearance in the box-office-shattering Black Panther film this year.
All his accomplishments culminated to his very first hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, a rite of passage for some of our greatest entertainers, and he did not disappoint, calling on his tear-jerking allure as he delivered on an emotional opening monologue.
“It’s SNL, you know. I mean, how lucky am I to be here, and on top of everything I’ve gotten to do in the last few years, it’s just like the icing on the cake,” Brown expressed, holding back tears before being met with a call to get it together from SNL star Leslie Jones.
Among the skits to which Sterling lent his chops were parodies of This Is Us and Black Panther. We even got a hilarious sketch in which Sterling portrayed a disgruntled Shrekaficionado who took issue with the Oscar win of the animated film Coco at this year’s ceremonies.
Check out his monologue and sketches below:
